Reading and conversation
David Mitchell
After death is before death
David Mitchell is a literary all-rounder, one of the greatest storytellers of our time. He seems to be able to change pitch and genre at will, to jump back and forth between perspectives and times. It sounds like an effort, but the opposite is true: reading his novels is like a rush. As in his global success Cloud Atlas (directed by Tom Tykwer and the Wachowski siblings), Mitchell once again manages to fit six novels into one in his new book, The Bone Clocks. And he does it in such a sweeping, brilliant way that the 800-plus pages of this metaphysical thriller fly by.
