Elvira Sastre
Against oblivion - with the pop star of the Spanish literary scene
Elvira Sastre (b. 1992) strikes a chord with an entire generation with her themes - violence against women, machismo and feminism. The 29-year-old has made poetry hip in Spain: Her poetry books are bestsellers, and thousands come to her readings. But Elvira Sastre can also write prose - and how!
Her debut novel, Días sin ti (Days Without You), has thrilled audiences and literary critics alike. In her book, she tells two love stories in different times. One takes place against the backdrop of the Civil War and Franco's dictatorship, the other is set in present-day Spain. Thus, two narrative strands meet: the present, still wounded by past events, and the crimes of Francoismo, whose victims were kept silent for many years. With her book, Elvira Sastre writes against oblivion.
In a touching way, Elvira Sastre's novel makes us understand that life and love are only so wonderful because they eventually come to an end. In 2019, she received the prestigious Premio Biblioteca Breve for it.
The evening will be moderated by María Cecilia Barbetta, a German-language author from Argentina who lives in Berlin. Her novel Nachtleuchten was shortlisted for the German Book Prize and celebrated for its political message and virtuoso linguistic art.
The conversation will be bilingual: the moderator will speak alternately German and Spanish, that is, translate for both the audience and the author.
In addition, passages of text will be read from the German translation.
The ticket includes the concert by Mercee afterwards.
