Judith Hermann
Lightness with depth
Mood, settings, sound: in Lettipark, the latest collection of stories by the German star author Judith Hermann, fans will immediately recognize the signature of their favorite author, who became a literary star in 1998 with her debut volume Summerhouse, later.
Like their author, Hermann's characters have grown older, are married or divorced, have children or wish they had. The vague longing of the young has become the detached melancholy of people in their mid-forties – in which a small spark of a possible new beginning sometimes flashes.
Judith Hermann has been awarded numerous prizes, including the Kleist Prize and the Friedrich Hölderlin Prize. She is celebrated for the unmistakable tone, elegance and beauty of her language.
