How is artificial intelligence changing our world?
We are currently experiencing the "iPhone moment" of artificial intelligence (AI), the technology is available to everyone for the first time. This means we are at a decisive threshold in our cultural evolution. Everything is changing everywhere at once. This also brings with it great uncertainties and fears: Is there a threat of massive job destruction? Will artificial intelligence replace human beings in the foreseeable future? The horror scenarios sound frightening. However, the visions of the future held by communication scientist Prof. Miriam Meckel and social scientist and entrepreneur Dr. Léa Steinacker are quite different. In their current SPIEGEL bestseller 'Everything everywhere at once', they analyze how AI is changing our world and focus on what we can gain from AI.
Miriam Meckel is Professor of Communication Management at the University of St. Gallen and has taught as a visiting professor at Harvard University, in Singapore, New York, and Vienna. She was editor-in-chief and publisher of Wirtschaftswoche, as well as State Secretary for Media and International Affairs in North Rhine-Westphalia. Her book 'Letter to my life' became a bestseller. Since 2018, Meckel has been co-founder and CEO of ada Learning, a further education program for future skills.
Léa Steinacker is a social scientist, journalist, and entrepreneur, studied at Princeton and Harvard, and completed her doctorate at the University of St. Gallen on the social impact of artificial intelligence. The US magazine Forbes included her in the list of 'Top 30 Under 30' media executives in Europe. Together with Miriam Meckel, she co-founded ada Learning in 2018.
The discussion on this highly topical subject is led by the philosopher Barbara Bleisch, who has been hosting the Sternstunde Philosophie on Swiss Radio and Television (SRF) since 2011. Her special interest lies in bridging academic philosophy, socio-political debates, and the existential questions that concern us all sooner or later.
